Okay, I'm backtracking a little bit here...but I wanted to share some pics from my trip to New Orleans last weekend. By the way, I appreciate all the birthday wishes emailed to me! :)
I had a great time and it was soooo great to chill out and eat great food. Of course, no trip to NO is complete without a stop at Pat O'Briens for a hurricane! There were no celebrity sightings...but spending a day at Belladonna spa, I felt like one. Anyway, it was a very relaxing trip but the french quarter was a little crazy so we ended up spending most of our time in the Garden District and on Magazine Street. Where I had the best slice of pizza in my life. I know, pizza in NO? Trust me, it was wunderfull! But I did get my cajun food fix and even brought home some frozen seafood gumbo and crawfish enchiladas...yum!
Speaking of food, my favorite restaurant...Uglesich's (think fried green tomatoes in a shrimp remoulade sauce and a bowl of oyster brie soup, mmmm) was closed. :( I'm assuming from hurricane damage. Most areas looked totally recovered but there were a few pockets where the old homes were totally gone and brand new condos were in their place. It's strange that in 2004 I actually photographed several homes in that area that are now replaced with shiny new square buildings.
Here's one home that is still standing, yet severely damaged. I could practically hear its walls talking. Heartbreaking.
But the city's really making a comeback and is as beautiful as ever. Geaux New Orleans! <the local's new motto>
Here's an example of a gorgeous home in the Garden District...
love the old architecture...
St. Louis Cathedral..
the french quarter at night...it was still early!
And couple of shots from the famous Lafayette Cemetery No. 1. Anne Rice used this cemetery in a lot of her novels...

a trip to the flea market provided interesting artifacts to photograph...
and we'll end the little photo tour with the symbol that represents New Orleans, the fleur-de-lis...with a little left-over Mardi-Gras. :)
